Welcome!

Welcome to the Downers Grove Bicycle Club. We are an organization formed in 2006 to promote bicycling as a social and safe activity in Chicago’s western suburbs. Whether you are a beginner, an experienced bicyclist, or somewhere in between, we invite you to join us.

The club holds meetings at the Lincoln Community Center, 935 Maple Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month. For more information about the Lincoln Center click here.

The club has rides of various riding levels scheduled each week to accommodate club members. We welcome all riders. All non-members will be asked to sign a waiver before participating on a ride. The Downers Grove Bicycle Club believes in safety so helmets are required on all club rides.

The Downers Grove Bicycle Club is an all-volunteer organization which began so area bicycling enthusiasts could share the pleasure and the joy of bicycling. For a small membership fee, members receive voting privileges and the opportunity to participate in a few "members only" activities.

New to bicycling? Haven't been on a bike in years? Not sure about all the "bike talk" terminology? Check out some of our links for new bicyclists by clicking here.

July Meeting Program

The Great Allegheny Passage by Bicycle

Take a few guys, their bikes and one car. Start in Pennsylvania – end in Washington DC a week later. Find out what happened in between: what they saw, how they decided where to stay, how much weight they lost, when Abe Glazer – DGBC Ride Committee Chairman – tells the ‘class’ what he did on his summer vacation. Come to the July meeting at Lincoln Center. Abe will share his stories and photos of the Great Allegheny Passage on Tuesday July 9th at 7:30 PM.

Bike Quote
“The pack is a single, fickle entity, a blaze of color leaving only a trail of dust in its vacuum wake. Even the most pervasive social conventions fall by the wayside under physical stress, as mere survival takes precedence over winning. The pack may be heedless of its own stragglers and have no more sympathy or sense of smell than hounds chasing a fox. In the end, you are on your own, a particle in the false constant of motion.”
-Laurence Malone
